Kiran 13th, Padmini 69th in Asian continental chess meet

Woman International Masters Kiran Manisha Mohanty and Padmini Rout of Orissa finished 13th and 69th respectively in the 9th Asian Continental Chess Championship, which concluded in Philippines today.

In the nine-round open category, featuring 90 players, Padmini secured 3.5 points with three wins, one draw and five defeats. Despite suffering more defeats, She tasted two notable success, defeating International Masters Khamrakulov Dzhurabek (Uzbekistan) and Aleksandar H Wohl (Australia) in the first and eighth round respectively.

Kiran won two, drew five and lost two to end her campaign with 4.5 points in the women’s section, which featured 24 players. Her two victories came against WIM Beverly Mendoza (Philipines) and WGM Hoang Thi Bao Tram (Vietnam). Ni Hua (China) won the open title with seven points, while the women’s crown went to Iranian WGM Pourkashiyan Atousa (7 points).
